What does the status of permanent residence of Canada mean?
As per the Canada's immigration law, the holder of a Canadian permanent resident visa (hereinafter the “Permanent Resident”) and his/her accompanying dependant(s) are allowed to permanently stay and earn their livelihood in Canada. Moreover the children of a Permanent Residents may attend primary and secondary education institutions in any public school without paying any tuition fee. Canadian Permanent residents are also eligible for free universal health care coverage.
Who can apply for permanent residence in Economic class?
- Skilled worker class
- Quebec skilled worker class/provincial nominee class
- Entrepreneur class, investor class
- Self-employed persons class
Federal skilled worker class: It consists of a system, which calculates applicant’s
points and grants permanent resident status to the applicants who can financially
establish themselves, in Canada. Applicants with minimum one year of full-time
work experience or equivalent (part-time), within 10 years prior to their application
date and who hold the necessary funding, may be eligible for evaluation. Quebec
skilled worker class/Provincial nominee class: Quebec and other provincial
applicants may apply for becoming permanent residents depending upon their demonstrated
capability to be efficiently settled in Canada, with respect to the immigration
laws and selection requirements of Quebec or any other province. Investor
class: For an individual who is able to show business experience and
a substantial financial capacity. Authorization is conditional upon a savings
of $400,000 in a government assured financial institute. Entrepreneur
class: For applicants who can be economically settled in Canada based on their business familiarity and individual net worth. Authorization is conditional upon the entrepreneur’s
responsibility to contribute to the Canadian economy and generate employment.
Self-Employed class: Applicants intending to have their personal employment or to create their own employment by running a farm in Canada. Applicant who has minimum two years of experience, five years prior to the application are eligible to apply under this category.
What is the processing time for a permanent resident visa application?
Processing time of the application is determined by the immigration program and the administrative center in question and other factors however, application filed under economic class can take between 12 months to 36 months. (Immigration offices in New Delhi, Islamabad, Beijing, Manila and Accra at present draw the large amount of applications and thus have a longer processing time).
Where is the permanent resident visa application submitted?
Applications are usually filed with the appointed immigration office outside of Canada that serves the country where the applicant has legally stayed during preceding one year of the application. Application for permanent resident visa can also be submitted inside Canada by certain permit holders to the appropriate Case Processing Centre in Canada which serves the applicant’s place of residence.
What is the processing fee for an application of permanent residence visa?
For applicants applying under the skilled worker program:
The application fee is presently set at $550 CAD for each applicant as well as each family member of the principle applicant who is 22 years of age or older. A fee of $ 150 CAD shall apply to each family member under the age of 22 years. The Right of Permanent Residence Fee of $490 CAD is levied, for each person who is at least 22 years of age when the visa is issued.
Is it necessary for the applicant to visit Canada as part of the application process?
No, applicants are not required to visit Canada during the immigration process.
However, Canadian experience in the area of intended destination can impact positively on the assessment. For Entrepreneur Class applicants, visit to Canada may communicate applicant's ability to meet the universal terms and conditions of admission.
Who needs to attend the selection interview?
The applicant and spouse (where applicable), will generally be required to travel to the processing immigration office and attend a selection interview. In some cases the interview can be waved. Accompanying dependant children over the age of 22 years may be required to attend the immigration selection interview.
Why is the interview conducted?
Generally an interview can be conducted to make sure that information provided in the documentation submitted is true; to confirm the possession of the necessary assets by applicant to settle in Canada; etc. The interview is not conducted only to verify an applicant’s language abilities. Applicants should bring to the interview, all original documentation supporting the application.
What about interview waivers?
Some cases may be exempted from a selection interview. This is at discretion of the immigration office in question.
Is it beneficial to have a relative in Canada?
The principal applicant gets extra points for adaptability if they, or their accompanying spouse or common-law partner, have a close relative in Canada such as a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, spouse, common-law partner, sister, brother, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and is physically residing in Canada.

Does my intended occupation require registration/licensing?
There are a few occupations in Canada which need registration and/or license (ex. lawyer, doctor, notary e.t.c.).
Do I become a permanent resident of Canada as soon as my landing documents are issued?
No. You will only become a permanent resident when you cross the Canadian border at a port-of-entry with your valid passport and your valid Canadian Immigrant Visa.
Is it possible to obtain a temporary non-immigrant (visitor's) visa after applying for Canadian permanent residence under the skilled worker class?
The present law clarifies the issue and states that immigration officer’s must assess the current purpose of the applicant’s visit and verify whether the applicant holds the right to enter Canada for a temporary purpose and thereafter leave Canada at the expiry of the visitor status, regardless of the fact that the long-term goal of the Applicant is to secure permanent residence in Canada. Current immigration policy encourages applicants to become familiar with Canada, which will add to the applicant's chances of successfully integrating into Canadian society.

- The employer selects one or more candidates for a phone interview;
- The employer makes its final selection(s) (depending on the number of positions available);
- The required legal documents are prepared by our company together with the employer and approved by the proper Canadian authorities;
- The work contract signed by the employer is given to one of our representatives in the region, and a copy is mailed to the candidate to review and sign;
- The candidate must undergo a medical examination;
- We prepare all the necessary documents for the work permit and submit them to the appropriate Canadian consulate or embassy;
- Upon the receipt of the work permit and the visa the candidate relocates to Canada.
